Toronto - Tuesday, August 12th, 2014
On Tuesday August 12th, Ontario Board President Mitchell Oelbaum and his family welcomed 30 Ontario Board Members and invited guests to his family farm in Rockwood Ontario for lunch and leisure, and to bid farewell to Professor Amos Drory, BGU Vice President for External Affairs and welcome Professor Steve Rosen, Deputy Rector and incoming Vice President.
After a brief board meeting, all enjoyed a lovely lunch in the picturesque setting. Following lunch CABGU’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Mendelson, spoke about his recent trip to Israel during Operation Protective Edge. Both Professor Drory and Professor Rosen then spoke about their own experiences during this time and how the current crisis in Gaza and has affected BGU and its students and faculty. Attention was drawn to the large number of IDF reservists attending BGU and the opportunity they have lost this summer to earn money to pay for their continuing education while called up to the IDF. How we can help those affected the most was discussed in great detail. The BGU emergency campaign was initiated to help with this issue and also those who would have worked this summer in the tourism and service industry in Israel which has been so adversely affected by the continuous threats of rocket fire from Hamas. Professor Drory concluded his presentation by thanking all members and guests for their continued support for the University as well as bid his farewell. Professor Rosen also thanked everyone for their solidarity with the university and greeted his new position with excitement. Many thanks to the Oelbaum Family for hosting their family farm and all guests who attended.
