Annual Vancouver BBQ
On Sunday August 23rd CABGU BC hosted Professor Sharon Pardo, the incoming head of BGU's department of Politics and Government who spoke to a group of community members. He provided valuable insights into the magnitude of the European Union's support of Israel's research and development sector. Participants learned about Israeli attitudes towards the EU and the impact of the EU's to Israel. BGU's Center for European Studies, is one of the world's top 20 institutions in this field. It is highly regarded in Europe and around the world. The event was held in conjunction with the JCC of Greater Vancouver.
CABGU BC held its fourth barbecue in the end of August at the home of lifelong associates of Ben-Gurion University. We enjoyed an Israeli barbecue and salads followed by an address by Professor Pardo. CABGU CEO Mark Mendelson, who made his annual trek to the West Coast, shared updates on national and international developments.
BGU's Center for European Studies has just launched an initiative to bring Doctoral and Post Doc students to Israel to familiarize them with the Country first hand. The Center has also launched an initiative inviting journal editors and peer reviewers to also visit both BGU, and more broadly, Israel in general.

It was clear to those present that what they had feared was already true-nothing it seemed was safe any longer. There was a new reality to which each and every one of us had to understand and adapt.
