A lively exchange ensued at the formal reception at the British Ambassador’s residence when Prince William found out that Ben-Gurion University of the Negev President Prof. Rivka Carmi was a pediatrician. After mentioning to her that there was a shortage of pediatricians in the UK, Prof. Carmi, who is due to step down as president in December, told the prince without missing a beat, “I’m available as of January 1st.”

Prof. Carmi was honored by Queen Elizabeth II in 2015, becoming a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE). She was one of only a handful of people from academia and the sciences in Israel invited to meet with the Duke of Cambridge during the reception.
