350 People. One Mission. A Night Vancouver Won't Forget.

Spark to Start Up Event Highlights

Last month's Spark to Start Up set out to do one thing: ignite entrepreneurship in the Vancouver community. What it delivered was something even bigger. The intimate evening brought together 350 guests, from Vancouver business leaders to young innovators, for an unforgettable night of bold conversations, surprising moments, and a reminder of exactly what Ben-Gurion University makes possible. Here are the top moments that resonated with us to recap this special evening.

1. Fireside chat between Saul Singer and Niels Veldhuis

The fireside conversation between internationally renowned co-author of Start-Up Nation and The Genius of Israel, Saul Singer, and President of the Fraser Institute, Niels Veldhuis, was fascinating. Saul captivated the room with his presentation on Israel’s current economic landscape, and their thoughtful discussion opened the evening with energy and insight.

2. Honouring Michael Fugman

A memorable moment of the evening was the presentation of the honourary award to Michael Fugman, presented by honorary co-chairs Martin Thibodeau and Caroline Desrosiers. In a deeply personal speech, Michael reflected on the entrepreneurial spirit that shaped both his family’s journey and the story of Israel, leaving the audience inspired by his message of vision, resilience, and belief in future generations.

3. A Powerful Close with Nas Daily

The evening concluded with a highly engaging presentation from Nuseir Yassin, known internationally as Nas Daily. With a thoughtful blend of humour and sincere reflection, Mr. Yassin spoke to the themes of entrepreneurship, innovation, and Israel's thriving economy, while offering a candid perspective on antisemitism, resilience, and unity. His remarks resonated deeply with the audience and brought the evening to a memorable and inspiring close.

4. A Young Innovator Earns His BGU Pin from President Professor Daniel Chamovitz

Henry Chodos, winner of ADI's 6th annual Make the Change Challenge, was recognized for NeuroStride, a smart orthotic brace concept designed to support children with neurological conditions. Invited to attend Spark to Start Up as a young innovator, Henry had the distinct honour of meeting Professor Daniel Chamovitz, President of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Impressed by Henry's vision and drive, Professor Chamovitz named him Entrepreneur of the Year and presented him with BGU's entrepreneurship pin, a fitting tribute to a young mind already making his mark.

Thank You, Vancouver

The evening reflected precisely what Spark to Start Up set out to achieve: inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs, innovators, and changemakers. Through powerful stories and thoughtful conversation, the event underscored the important role Ben-Gurion University continues to play in shaping the future of Israel and beyond. We are deeply grateful to all who joined us in Vancouver for such a meaningful evening.

Special thanks to our generous sponsors Peartree and RBC, and to all whose support makes these impactful events possible.
