A MESSAGE FROM BGU CANADA CEO ANDREA FREEDMAN
Dear Friends,
We are all constantly following the news, talking with others about the news—and then simply worrying about the news.
Many of us feel helpless.
And scared.
Every Israeli and Jewish organization is scrambling to help meet the needs of the people and institutions they are responsible for.
Emergency appeals abound, and it can be challenging to determine which needs are the highest priority. I believe this is because almost everything right now is a high-priority need.
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is no exception. As you have always cared about and supported BGU and the Negev, please consider making an immediate and additional gift to help support the mental health and material needs of our students and indeed the entire BGU community at this critical moment.
We may feel helpless, but there are still meaningful actions we can take:
- Give – hopefully to BGU, or if not, to another worthwhile organization supporting Israelis.
- Act – for example, follow alerts from advocacy organizations and lobby all levels of government on specific issues of importance. Write letters to the editor when media reports are biased or inaccurate. Post on social media drawing awareness to the plight of the 53 hostages remaining in Gaza and the fact that Israel is saving the world from a nuclear Iran.
- Support – on a Sunday, participate in Run for Their Lives (in support of the hostages) or attend a speaker event any night of the week.
- Reach out – make a point of contacting Israelis you know and reminding them that they are not alone.
- Pray – for the hostages, for peace, for the IDF, and for the Jewish State of Israel.
Each of us has a choice to make—whether to be paralyzed by the news or to take concrete action to support our brothers and sisters in Israel. We can’t stop Iran’s ballistic missiles, nor can we personally rescue the hostages, but we can still make a meaningful difference.
