The Medical Simulation Building at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is one of Israel’s most advanced centres for clinical training.
It is designed to elevate patient safety and prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals through realistic, hands-on education. At the heart of this facility are high-fidelity anatomical models (manikins), which serve as the core teaching tools.
These sophisticated manikins, adult, pediatric, neonatal, obstetric, and trauma models, enable learners to practise a full range of clinical procedures in a safe, controlled environment. They breathe, bleed, speak, respond to medications, and can quickly deteriorate or recover based on the actions of the trainees. This realism allows medical, nursing, and paramedic students to perform essential skills such as intubation, CPR, IV insertion, newborn resuscitation, and emergency trauma care long before they encounter real patients.
The building includes fully equipped mock emergency rooms, operating theatres, intensive care units, and even an ambulance bay. Each scenario is monitored from adjacent control rooms, where instructors can adjust the manikin’s vital signs or introduce complications in real time. Afterwards, students meet in dedicated debriefing rooms to review recordings of their performance and improve both technical abilities and teamwork.
Beyond undergraduate training, the facility is used by clinicians, medics, and emergency responders for advanced simulations and continuing education. Recreating high-risk, rare, or complex medical events ensures that frontline personnel are better prepared for real-world challenges. By investing in this simulation-driven approach, donors help BGU provide life-saving training that directly improves the quality of healthcare in the Negev and across Israel.
