Emergency Medicine in Action: Healing the Negev - May 25, 2025
On Sunday May 25, 2025, in Metro Vancouver, we heard the answer from Dr. Oren Wacht—Israel’s first paramedic with a PhD, and Head of Emergency Medicine at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. In a raw and powerful presentation, Dr. Wacht shared the reality of treating the wounded since October 7, paying tribute to fallen colleagues while showing how Israeli first responders press on through unimaginable trauma.
The event, Emergency Medicine in Action: Healing the Negev Post October 7th, moved everyone in the room. Thanks to the Heartbeat of Education project, launched in B.C. and Alberta earlier this year, paramedics and students studying emergency medicine are receiving the support they need to be ready for any emergency. This is how we turn heartbreak into healing—through education, resilience, and unity.
