CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, BGU CANADA
A RETURN TO LEARNING AT BEN-GURION UNIVERSITY

On December 31, 2023, university students across Israel, including at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), returned to the classroom to resume their studies after an 11 week delay due to the attacks of October 7th and the subsequent Gaza war.
Below is an excerpt from a message sent by BGU President, Professor Daniel Chamovitz about a return to learning.

But alongside this sorrow, there is strength and resilience. Thousands of students will return to our campuses, resuming their academic journeys in various fields, from engineering to psychology. We're excited to launch new programs, like occupational therapy, welcoming its first cohort in the Negev. We have adapted our academic plans to ensure all our students, particularly those still serving in the reserves, can fulfill their academic requirements. This includes a "refresh week" and a six-week summer session for essential course repetition."

In late December, BGU Canada launched The Schulich Foundation's MATCHING CHALLENGE up to $1 MILLION! The Challenge runs until January 31st.

THANK YOU, SYLVAN ADAMS, FOR YOUR
TRANSFORMATIONAL USD $100-MILLION GIFT!

Canadian-Israeli businessman, Sylvan Adams announced a transformational USD $100 MILLION gift during the NEGEV STRONG Gala - An Evening of BGUnity, held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, in Toronto. It is the single, largest charitable contribution ever made by the real-estate mogul and philanthropist. The donation comes at the right time, as BGU begins to look to the future of both the university, and the Negev region. There is no doubt that future generations of students, staff and their families will benefit immensely from this incredible gift.
This story captured international headlines. Sylvan Adams told eJewishPhilanthropy he hopes this gift will benefit the university, the region, the country and the planet.
Thank you, Sylvan Adams, for your generosity, and your investment in the future of the Negev!
