In the June edition of BGU Canada's eConnect, we reflect back on the 53rd Board of Governors Meeting held last month in the Be'er Sheva and Sde Boker campuses of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). Highlights from the BGU 2023 Board of Governors

Last month, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) welcomed many of its supporters from around the world at the 53rd Board of Governors Meeting at the Be'er Sheva and Sde Boker campuses.

Congratulations, Regina Boxer!

On Thursday, May 18th, one of BGU Canada - Vancouver,s lifelong leaders and founders, Regina Renee Franco Boxer, was invested into the Yitzhak Navon Order of the Knights of Ladino at BGU. Led by Dr. Eliezer Papo, Head of BGU's Sephardic Studies Research Institute, the special knighting ceremony was held in the BGU Senate Hall in front of a distinguished audience of invited guests.  We extend our warmest congratulations to Dona Regina Boxer of Vancouver and to Don Mishael Ben-Melech of Israel for their many contributions to the preservation of Ladino, Sephardic and Mizrahi culture in Israel, Canada and beyond!


Welcome, Maury Steindel:
BGU Canada Regional President, Winnipeg

BGU Canada in Winnipeg is proud to welcome Maury Steindel as the chapter's new regional president.

Maury is a Civil Engineer specializing in Transportation Infrastructure with a focus on Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety. For the past 15 years he has worked on multi-disciplinary engineering projects across Canada.

Before starting his engineering career, Maury owned and operated a theatre production company. Maury lives in Winnipeg, Canada with his wife, Rachel and children, Aaron, Joshua, and Leah.

Earlier this year, Maury participated in BGU's 2023 Halutz initiative, a program that inspired him to become further involved with BGU Canada - Winnipeg.

We wish to thank Diandra Etkin and Aaron Migie, the outgoing Winnipeg regional co-presidents for their service and dedication.


UPCOMING EVENTS
Montreal:

The Montreal Main Event is fast approaching. This year, we are raising funds for Beit Mark in memory of Mark Mendelson. Beit Mark is a student residence located in the area of BGU's North Campus.

The event will also feature a conversation with i24 journalist Mike Wagenheim.


Toronto:

Last month, BGU Canada announced the second annual “The Future is Now Gala featuring Anderson Cooper." The Gala takes place on December 3, 2023. The event offers a unique opportunity for individuals and sponsors to support BGU’s commitment to making a meaningful impact on the world. The gala embodies excellence, innovation, and vision as BGU continues its journey of transforming lives and shaping the future.
