Robotics and High Tech

Robotics is only the beginning for BGU and the high-tech industry in Beer-Sheva.

BGU is widely considered a leader in the field of robotics. It is known for interdisciplinary research and development (R&D) of robotic systems with medical, agricultural, industrial, and homeland security applications. Now with the opening of Beer-Sheva’s Advanced Technologies Park (ATP) next to the Marcus Family Campus, BGU is the center of Israel’s “Silicon Wadi.” Companies such as Hewlett Packard, IBM, EMC, and Deutsche Telekom opened R&D centers in the ATP or at BGU, leveraging the University’s R&D expertise and hiring its graduates.

A technology for the production of jet fuel developed from vegetable oils is ready for commercialization. Molecular biologists are exploring how to extract energy from bacteria. Others are re-designing nuclear reactors, and improving energy-efficient architecture.

ROBOTICS

BGU researchers are developing innovative robots designed to handle jobs too dangerous, dirty or dull for people to do.

BGU is leading the robotics field through basic and applied research on various aspects of robotics technology, such as perception, artificial intelligence, motor control, and mechanical design. Robots developed at BGU are being used in surgery, in search and rescue, and in agriculture. They are spraying and picking crops, climbing walls and crawling through rubble. Wearable robots are harvesting energy from human movement. The University’s Agricultural, Biological and Cognitive (ABC) Robotics Initiative is advancing multidisciplinary robotics research.

Support research fellowships and scholarships for robotics students, and help create robots that change the world.
